Keanu Movie Club- Parenthood (1989)

Keanu is an actor with many roles under his belt ranging from “The One” to an Orthodontist who’s obsessed with wolves. But there’s one role that he’s played, maybe, too well: the angst ridden teen. Nothing compares to his sweet, naive, absent minded, “stoner” character Tod Higgins from the Ron Howard’s 1989 film Parenthood.

Tod Higgins is a good guy who just loves his girlfriend (Martha Plimpton) and not as dumb as everyone assumes. This character is a gem in Keanu’s crown of misunderstood teen angst during the late 80s and early 90s. No one did it better. There was a beauty and ease in his acting for these roles and if you never thought Keanu could act, think again and watch this:

There’s some truth and pain in that monologue, probably stemming from his real life experience with his own father not being around. Keanu has more depth then people think. Sometimes you just have to look a little deeper and beyond the “vacant stare” because you might see a beauty and innocence you’ve never noticed.

Knock, Knock…Who’s There?

The new Eli Roth movie starring Keanu Reeves called, what else, Knock, Knock.

The film is about “A pair of femme fatales wreaking havoc on the life of a happily married man (Reeves).”

I’m thrilled to see what Eli Roth and Reeves will create working together and just excited to see him in a horror/thriller role.

Check out his interview here:

Keanu Movie Club: Hard ball (2001)

It’s Monday and we are all sleepy so why not treat yourself to a classic film, Hard ball.

Wait. You haven’t seen it you say? Well, you’re in for a treat.

Sure it may look like a bust but trust me it’ll be worth your time.

Also, here’s a test:

Guess the singer at the end of the film.

Keanu Movie Club: Scanner Darkly

In honor of the Richard Linklater’s new movie Boyhood being released last weekend I thought I would remind you of a little movie he did with Keanu in 2006 called Scanner Darkly.

An undercover cop in a not-too-distant future becomes involved with a dangerous new drug and begins to lose his own identity as a result.

Even the tagline reads like a typical Keanu film be in sorta like Point Break and The Matrix/Johnny Mnemonic had a love child it would be this movie.

It’s a visually stunning film and has a great cast. If you haven’t seen it before buy yourself a fancy beer and some popcorn and enjoy.

Please leave reviews too if you haven’t seen it! I would love to hear what you think.

Dream Cast: Keanu Reeves

I know. Keanu Reeves is the IDEAL person to play himself in this play about, himself but if he’s busy lets think of some other possibilities.

Who would you like to see?

Misha, I know you can sing…so why not sing in the musical?

Just imagine Jonathan Groff belting out a love ballad to Neil Patrick Harris (who is definitely on my list to play Ghost Patrick Swayze)

And just think what an amazing job Joseph Gordon-Levitt would do:

And how hilarious Charlie Day would be:

And Stephen Colbert would FUCKIN’ KILL IT (and he’s worked with Neil Patrick Harris already…so, it just works)

*Sigh*

Keanu Movie Club: The Gift

A surprisingly thrilling thriller with some predictable twists, this film by director Sam Raimi showed me how a slew of Academy Awarded actors can all share the spot light and work together as well oiled machine.

The sparks of anger and fear that flew between Cate Blanchett and Keanu Reeves was fantastic and really made the movie for me.

Here’s a clip of Keanu being accused for murder of Kate Holme’s character.

Confused? Just watch the movie and see how this all melts together.

It’s on Netflix….just sayin’.

The Nice Guy: Keanu Reeves

We all like to believe that movie stars are the nicest and greatest beings on Earth. But unfortunately we know that is not true. With that dang technology today we see Actors caught on tape screaming at the directors and just being downright rude to fans. You may think it’s all over, that movie stars will never be just like you and me….

Or did we speak too soon?

Is there one true person left…is it “The One”?!?!

Keanu is still a gentleman and also just a nice guy. Take a look at this article depicting the money he’s donated to help films be made and to just help out others. He’s also taken major pay cut in his salary to be part of films such as The Matrix. What would your life be with out The Matrix?!?! He’s also very honest about himself and his experiences and when not in the spotlight he tends to try and keep a private life, which I respect. Keanu seems like a guy you could go out and have a beer with and have one of the best conversations of your life (he’s very well read). I know he’s still an actor and getting paid more then you and me but doesn’t it at least give you hope that there are some folks still out there “keeping it real”?

You may still need to be convinced of his magic but I don’t see how you can argue with his kindness.

Just try.
